About AMEA
The Arizona Music Educators Association was established in 1939 as a cooperative effort of music educators. Since that time, the association has become affiliated with the Music Educators National Conference (MENC). Special interests in the Association are represented by four constituent organizations; The Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association (ABODA), The Choral Directors of Arizona (ChoDA), The Arizona Society of General Music (AZSGM) and the Arizona Collegiate Music Educators (ACME).
There are a number of departments within the Association that are led by appointed leaders. The National Coalition for Music Education, which is an advocacy group consisting of MENC, The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), and the National Academy of Recording Arts and Scientists (NARAS), is represented locally by the Arizona Coalition for Music Education. Other departments include Membership, Music in Our Schools Month, Early Childhood Development, Curriculum Development, Retired Members, Multi-Cultural Awareness, Music Technology, Grants and Endowments, Student Composition and Public Relations.
AMEA supports the activity of the MENC Collegiate chapters (student), and Tri-M chapters, high school music student honorary organizations, in Arizona.
The membership of the Association is approximately 1350. This varies monthly due to renewals which are on a "rotating" annual membership format.
